Comparing AI Website Builders

June 2, 2023 | Garrett Houghton

In this post, I take a few AI website builders for a test drive to see if they are the real deal or not. Can these tools replace traditional website builders - Webflow, Squarespace, Typedream, et al - already? Or, are we further from fully functional AI website builders than what the hype train says?

60 Sec Site Review

Summary

Color me impressed. 60 Sec Site does what it says. All you need to do is enter in a simple prompt for your business or idea and it will build an entire landing page (copy included) for you in less than a minute. The onboarding experience is awesome. It'll build the website before requiring you to create an account. The out of the box design looks pretty good and the integrations into payment providers, native email collection and social applications is a plus.

Where 60 Sec Site falls short is the ability to customize the website. You have to use their predetermined sections and work within their limited themes. But for a simple, clean landing page in under a minute? It's great.

Overall, I'd recommend using 60 Sec Site if you want to get a cookie cutter landing page up quick (like in less than an hour) and aren't looking for a multi-page or customized experience. For instance, if I'm working on an MVP, I might go to 60 Sec Site as my pre-launch landing page.

I can imagine as 60 Sec Site continues to grow and add features, it could rival more mature website builders.

Pros

-Extremely simple onboarding

-Auto copy generation

-Modern design

-Simple editor

-Payment integrations (Gumroad, Lemon Squeezy, Stripe)

Cons

-Single page only

-Little to no design customization

-Limited feature set

Other AI Website Builder Reviews

Summary

For the rest of the AI website builders I tried, they all suffered from some of the same issues. Either the design was not modern or the copy wasn't great or the onboarding experience was painful (or all of the above). Below is a list of some of the pros/cons of each of the other tools for reference.

Pros

-10Web: Wordpress integration

-10Web: Robust feature set

-Durable: Easy Onboarding

-Hocoos: Service industry oriented

Cons

-Limited customization

-Limited feature set (excluding 10Web)

-No modern design

Conclusion

Overall, these AI website builders are impressive (and fun!). But like most AI products currently on the market, they leave me wanting. The best part about these AI website builders in my opinion is the auto generated website copy. Writing copy is a painful experience and these tools give you a solid first draft. However, I'd prefer to go to ChatGPT and get my copy generated and then go to a robust website builder, like Typedream or Webflow, and drop it in, which gives me the best of both worlds: AI generated copy and a highly customizable, powerful website builder.

That said, if you are looking for an AI website builder for your next project, I'd recommend 60 Sec Site.
